The Library
Upperthorpe Library based at Zest Centre is a welcoming and accessible volunteer-run community library.
Upperthorpe is called an ‘associate library’ and is a Sheffield Branch Library, part of the wider Sheffield Libraries system, and the volunteers running it are supported by a Zest-based coordinator.

Library Services
- Self Issue facility when library team not on duty
- Printing facilities when staff available
- Great selection of fiction and non-fiction books and talking books for adults
- Great selection of children’s books including first books, picture books, young readers books, funny stories, animal stories and spooky stories. There are also non-fiction books and a homework reference section
- Books in Somali, Chinese and Urdu
- DVDs not available to borrow in the library but can be ordered at the desk from other branches. We do have a number of DVDs for sale in the library
- Small selection of stationary items, books and DVDs for sale
- Children’s holiday activities including treasure hunts and reading challenges
- ICT Suite that includes:
- 4 computers for public use all with free internet access

- Exhibitions – Local Art in your Local Library – local artists displaying original work
- Book Club: Fridays 10.30-11.30am (waiting list in operation)

Joining
It is FREE to join the library – adults need to provide 1 proof of ID. There is no charge to borrow books or return them but if an item is lost for good we do ask for the cost. There is a small hire charge for DVDs which can be ordered from other libraries. You can borrow up to 20 books at a time.
Children can join the library from birth and we have lots of books for babies.
Computer Access
Access to our 4 library public computers is free. Please ask a member of the library team or Reception for an access code if there is nobody on duty at the desk. Please ensure you read and follow guidance on computer use IT Suite Rules
